Manasseh's death (2 Ki 21:17-18; 2 Chron 33:18-20)
Events around the time of Isaiah arranged in chronological order:
Before Assyria started it's westward expansion into Syria and Israel , and southward into Babylon around 740BC, it was ruled by a succession of weak rulers.
This mean that Syria , Israel and Judah all enjoyed a relative period of peace.
Israel at this time was being ruled by Jeroboam II and Judah by Uzziah / Azariah.
But this long period of peace and stable reigns gave both kingdoms, especially Israel a false sense of complacency.
God was surely pleased with they felt, otherwise they would not be experiencing such blessings.
The words of Prophets Hosea and Amos fell on deaf years.
Judah was some what less corrupted compared to Israel .
This all came crashing end shortly after the accession of Assyrian King Tiglath-pileser III
Pul came against the land of Israel and Menahem, the king of Israel , collected money from the rich people and paid off Pul. (2 Ki 15:19-20)
A coalition is formed by Aram ( Syria ) and Israel to fight Assyria . They start making plans to attack Judah to bring them to join the coalition forces.
Jotham dies and his son Ahaz becomes the new king. Judah under the kingship of Ahaz had a choice to make.
As soon as it became clear that Judah would assume a pro-Assyrian stance
Pekah, king of Israel and Rezin, king of Aram ( Syria ) attacked Israel , hoping probably to replace the king to one who would favor their coalition.
